![]() He has suggested that the creation of a medical support worker role here – similar to that provided for under the UK’s health system – would be an ideal way to bring Ukrainian doctors into the HSE workforce. “I brought up some suggestions – if they can help us fill positions like a medical or doctor’s assistant – so that while we are waiting for our exam we are being helped, and seeing how the system works here.” In the meantime, Dr Bello has written to the HSE and the Minister for Health, asking them to take advantage of the skills and experience of Ukrainian doctors by allowing them to work in clinical settings under supervision. While Dr Bello is proficient in English, other Ukrainian doctors who are less comfortable with the language face an additional challenge, as in order to be eligible to book the PLAB exam in November, they will need to have already passed a language test.
